Impatience isn’t the problem. It’s the signal.

Friend, you might guess that waterparks are not my natural habitat.

The heat, humidity, chlorine smell, tight bathing suits, kids screaming (from both joy and meltdowns) and so. many. peeeoooople. 🫠

No wonder I was deep in sensory overload when my daughter asked me to swim with her. I really didn’t want to. Like, deeply didn’t want to. I said no.

She asked again. And again. I felt myself harden.

But then I caught the heartbreak in her voice. She wasn’t trying to push through my boundary. She was asking—literally begging—for me to be with her instead of watching from the sidelines.

Ugh. Gut punch.

So, my guilt-ridden self got into the freezing cold water. Tiptoeing and wincing the whole way. (Because I’m dramatic like that.)

The first five minutes were miserable. I wanted to be doing anything but that.

But then I saw her sweet excited face, and I set the intention to stay present with my body, even in the overstimulation. I focused on just one thing: my breath.

Soon, something in me softened. My body warmed. My spirit relaxed.

Before I knew it, we were laughing, sliding down waterslides, and having an absolute blast. At one point, she looked at me and said, “You are soooooo much fun, Mommy.”

That one sentence melted me.

I felt so guilty that I had to work so hard just to be present and playful. And the familiar “I’m an awful mother” story started to rise.

But the honest truth I know is this: I wasn’t failing at motherhood; my nervous system was simply at capacity. And my frustration and impatience weren’t flaws. They were signals pointing to a tapped out nervous system that needed tending.

It was time to:

Pause.
Breathe.
Return to Center.

This is the work. Not to judge the signals—but to listen to them as signs that you need to drop back into your body.

If your nervous system has been sending those signals lately, I recorded this guided meditation to help you get back into the Now.

Meeting in the Now is the first step in the MOIRA Process, the healing framework that guides all of my work, whether one-on-one or in community. That’s because presence is the doorway to healing.

One more really important thing I want you to know: presence isn’t about perfection or performance. It is about practice. So give yourself some grace, okay?

In Love, Light, and healing,
