Friend, I just wrapped up a 12-week journey guiding a truly lovely group of humans through The Artist’s Way. I’ve been holding the ending of this deeply meaningful experience for a few days now, watching it settle like a snow globe.
This was my first time teaching it, and I was completely blown away by the innate power of the program, which is based on a book by Julia Cameron. It has an energy all of its own that gently shifts everyone who engages with it into greater alignment.
It’s not really about making art or becoming an artist – at least not in the way people expect. It’s more about creating a rhythm of showing up for yourself through simple practices like daily journaling and setting aside time for a weekly solo adventure.
And then coming together weekly in a small group to reflect, listen, and share (if you want to).
The first week, 15 people walked into a room full of strangers, scared to make eye contact as they took out their books and pens.
At the last meeting, we held a ridiculously bright and playful celebration (complete with metallic tablecloths, cupcakes, chocolate bunnies, and pink lemonade) that ended with us huddling together joyfully in a group hug.
I don’t think we talk enough about how much courage it takes to sign up for something you’re not entirely sure about. To sit down with people you’ve never met, and to let yourself be seen – truly seen – even just a little.
To share honestly. To be raw and real.
But the more you do, the more you realize that this is what your soul has been yearning for: connection.
Yes, people reconnected with their creativity; that is part of the magic. People started writing again, painting again, noticing beauty again. They gave themselves permission to play, which sounds simple but is actually a really big deal for most of us.
And many people discover that The Artist’s Way supports emotional healing and deeper self-connection.
You see, this wasn’t just about creativity. It was about the way people relaxed into themselves and started to trust their own voices and dreams a little more. The way they kept showing up week after week for themselves and each other.
And it made me realize, again, how hungry we are for that.
We don’t need more information. We don’t need more things to fix or figure out. We don’t need more things to do.
We need more spaces to just be.
Where we don’t have to perform or get it right. Where we can hear ourselves think, and feel what’s actually going on underneath the surface of our lives.
And maybe even more than that, we’re aching to do that in community.
You can journal on your own, read all the self-help books, scroll through inspirational videos till the wee morning hours… but something entirely different unfolds when you’re in a space where someone looks you in the eye, truly sees you, and cheers you on for all you are and all you are becoming.
That’s why this work matters so much. Not just The Artist’s Way, all of it. The community circles. The one-on-one sessions. The intentional containers where you get to come back to yourself – in the presence of someone who can hold that with you.
If you’ve been feeling that pull lately, you’re not the only one. We live in lonely times.
It can all shift with a willingness to walk into the room and to say “yes” to something new. Everything else will unfold from there.
In Love, Light, and healing,
